The New Child and the New Adult - Encountering the Good Shepherd Together

The 60th Anniversary of The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd was a blessed and joyful International Celebration for Catechists.  We thank all who have participated, especially our speakers, hosting team, benefactors, sponsors and collaborating companies.

A Celebration of Joy and Friendship

Welcome From Bishop Thomas J. Olmsted in English

Bienvenida del Reverendísimo Obispo Thomas J. Olmsted

Highlights from the Celebration

The National Association of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd, as host of this celebration, is delighted to share the encounter of the Good Shepherd and the children of the world through their song and art expression as well as the joy of the catechists who have come to share in the religious values of the children, namely contemplation and the enjoyment of God.

Six hundred catechists from  twenty four countries came to the desert of Phoenix, Arizona  in October of 2014 to celebrate the 60th year of the Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in the world and the 30th year in the United States.

Together, we celebrated the "new child", a term first used by Maria Montessori and adopted by Sofia Cavalletti and Gianna Gobbi to refer to the child who exhibits  "a sense of gratitude, joy and a new dignity" in having his or her deepest needs met.

Together, we shared the joy of what we have seen and heard with "the appearance of new children, whose souls revealed themselves with such radiance as to spread a light through the whole world."  (Maria Montessori)

Together,  we celebrated the gift of our work in the Catechesis in which, through the observation of the child's unique relationship with God and through the adult's willing embrace of our servant role in that relationship, we come to share in the child's wonder and joy and so become  "new adults" in our encounter of  the Good Shepherd and  the children of the world.
