Mystery of Faith

In the Roman Missal, Third Edition, the priest’s announces, “The mystery of faith.” We are used to him saying, “Let us proclaim the mystery of faith.” By saying, “Let us…” he is implying that this is something we do together, the celebrant and assembly. In the new translation, the acclamation is ours to make. The priest does not join us, just as he does not join us in responding to “The Body Of Christ” or “The Gospel of the Lord.” The acclamation belongs to the people.

"The Christian who proclaims the “mystery of faith” does not articulate two past events – the death and resurrection – and the coming of Christ in glory, which lies in the future.  The Christian’s “mystery of faith” is the presence, the today of supreme events of the life of Jesus, the Christ, which offers each one of us who comes into history the possibility of taking part in it."
- Sofia Cavalletti, Living Liturgy, page 12

For Your Reflection
The words we currently use (Christ has died, Christ is risen, Christ will come again) are a statement ABOUT Christ. The words we will use in this presentation after November 27, 2011 (We proclaim your Death, O Lord, and profess your Resurrection until you come again) are a prayer TO Christ. Do you think this will have an impact on your presentation with the children or the children’s response? Do you think this will have an impact on how you will proclaim these words at Mass?

Looking at your album page, how will you adjust and transform your meditation with the children to reflect the new words of the Mystery of Faith?

Will you share the sung version on the Mystery of Faith with your children in the atrium?

How do these words bring you to “fuller participation in the Mass”?
