Elementary Guide With Catechesis of Good Shepherd Formation

A group of Christian families coming from an AMI recognized primary environment is seeking an AMI trained elementary guide.  Our current school has reached its physical capacity. We are starting afresh and looking to grow a Christ focused, AMI recognized school in Northern Virginia which offers a quality Montessori education and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd.

 

Qualified candidates will guide students who are mostly first years for the 2018-19 school year.

 

Ideal candidates will be motivated in the following areas: 

 

 - Creating a peaceful, respectful, loving classroom culture.

 

-  Manage cycles of lessons, projects, observations, assessments and reports for each child.

 

-  Support the Montessori tradition of goings out and field trips.

 

-  Collaborate with parents to meet goals for students.

 

 

 

Requirements:

 

 - AMI Elementary Certification (Completed or Begun)

Family Faith Formation Director

BACKGROUND INFORMATION St. John’s family ministry program helps parents and children deepen their relationship with God; learn about the love of Jesus Christ; and become active members of the St. John's family, the Episcopal Church, and the greater Christian community.

STATUS Part-Time, Exempt; lay or ordained. This position reports to the St. John’s Rector.
TIME REQUIREMENT
This position requires approximately 30 hours per week, including Sundays, occasional evenings/weekends, and special events as required.
OBJECTIVES
This position is responsible for developing and implementing a comprehensive Christian formation program for children and families at St. John’s, that instills in children an affinity for God and for Episcopal liturgy and sacred music, that honors the importance of children and young families to the overall health of the church, and that offers new families an easy entrée into the St John’s community.
QUALIFICATIONS
Must be at least 21 years of age, be able to successfully complete a background check, reference checks, and safe church training
Must have experience with and passion for working with children of all ages (birth to 18) and their families; should be able to offer a vision for the spiritual development of the whole child (in his or her life beyond church, and throughout his or her formative years)
Must have experience with church and Sunday school (Episcopal Church and Catechesis of the Good Shepherd highly preferred); experience as a certified CGS catechist is desirable; should have a regular personal practice of prayer, study, worship, giving, and serving
Must be able to plan and teach classes, and organize and lead events and worship experiences, that are accessible to children; must possess the ability to manage complex projects, attend to details, and improvise when needs dictate
Must have excellent interpersonal and communication skills; must be a relationship-builder and possess an engaging personality to which children, youth, and adults respond positively; must be an evangelist, creating a classroom climate which welcomes visiting children and their parents; must be able to work as part of a team with other lay staff, clergy, and parish volunteers
