In Memory of Sofia Cavalletti

It was the desire of a small group of catechists, trained in Catechesis of the Good Shepherd by Sofia and Gianna, to begin an association of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd in the United States in order to strengthen the bonds of friendship and give focus to the child’s religious experiences. Thirteen of these catechists signed the back of a picture of the Good Shepherd in the summer of 1983 with their intention to help children and adults hear the voice of the Good Shepherd.

Sofia participated in these early discussions in the formation this association. In fact, she was integral to the birth of our association. She shared the hope that such an association would further the work of the religious development of the child. Indeed, our work as the National Association of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd continues today with the same aim: to serve and assist the involvement of children and adults in a common religious experience in which the religious values of childhood, primarily those values of contemplation of and enjoyment of God, are predominant.
