 WHY THE FAITH FORMATION SYMPOSIUM?
As On Mission for the Church Alive! unfolds, clergy and lay leaders are searching for faith formation programs for youth that are more life-giving than those utilized in the past.  Many want to know what research indicates are the most viable options for renewal.  The Secretariat for Leadership Development and Evangelization is hosting the Faith Formation Symposium to provide concrete answers to these questions.

During this gathering,
national and local experts will present on some of the most promising methods, models and directions for bringing children, youth and families to committed discipleship and ever greater intimacy with Christ.  In addition to keynote addresses, those attending can choose from a range of workshops on specialized topics.  Participants will recieve an overview of the diocese' new platform for catechetical certification to be launched in the near future; tours of the three levels of Catechesis of the Good Shepherd atria will be held; a special exhibit on the religious art of children will be on display ("The HeART of the Child"); and vendors from various publishers will make their resources available.

This symposium is geared for clergy and all leaders in catechetical ministries (catechetical administrators, principals, pre-school directors, youth/campus ministers, and high school religion teachers).  March 16, however, is open the general public for the art exhibit, tours of the atria and parent/catechist talks.

For the first time in the history of the Diocese of Pittsburgh, each parish simultaneously has the chance at a fresh start.  Every clergy administrator and lay minister is asking the question, "What can we do to make our parish better than it has ever been before?"  This is a time, therefore, not only for transition, but for dreaming and building.  It is truly a
Kairos moment, replete with both challenge and opportunity.  Indeed, “this is the acceptable time….The day of salvation is at hand!” (2 Cor 6:2)
