A Servant’s Heart – Gianna Gobbi
“To ‘enter into the secret of childhood’ requires of us, as adults, both a willing spirit and a particular discipline.” Gianna Gobbi,
Listening to God with Children, p. vii
Gianna often spoke of the invitation “to enter into the secret of childhood” through the observation of children. She reminded us that the capacity to be a good observer brings with it other qualities: patience and humility, qualities of the catechist. Gianna always encouraged us to learn to be silent, to observe and to assume what she called “the attitude of humility,” a servant’s heart.
You are invited to join catechists for this year’s Servant Song Retreat , September 5 – 8, at the Franciscan Renewal Center in Scottsdale, Arizona, as step away from our busy lives to refresh ourselves through prayer, reflection, and in the community of catechists on the servant’s heart of Gianna Gobbi. Several key speakers who personally knew Gianna will share about Gianna’s life and role as catechist with the little ones. We’ll engage in discussing Gianna’s writings and see some precious videos of her. We’ll also have our own personal time of reflection through the work of our hands.
December 15, 2019 is the centenary of Gianna’s birth. In loving memory and in honor of Gianna, we will launch the “100 days of Joy” during this retreat.

Come to the desert for a time of retreat and renewal in the spirit of The Catechesis of the Good Shepherd as we take a loving look at the gifts Gianna Gobbi brought to CGS as a catechist and Montessorian.
We look forward to seeing you.
