Your Purchase Has Purpose
When you shop with us, you help further the work to support catechists, parents, and others in the Church and beyond, as they grow in their understanding of the religious potential of children.
Since 1984, when the budding Association published its first newsletter, CGSUSA has published 72 books, journals, and articles. CGSUSA publishes books under an imprint of Liturgical Training Publications (LTP), the publishing arm of the Archdiocese of Chicago. Under that imprint CGSUSA has published English translations of the seminal works of Sofia Cavalletti, including several recently updated volumes. CGSUSA continues to select manuscripts for publication, working with prospective authors on ideas of interest to the CGS community. Catechesis of the Good Shepherd Publications issues an average of two new books a year.
The CGSUSA imprint publishes books for children as well, including the Little Gospels, a series of scripture booklets that present the text of the infancy narratives, paschal narratives, and parables of the Kingdom in a translation by Cavalletti with illustrations by Gobbi. Another book, A is for Altar, portrays objects that would be familiar to a child of the atrium.
CGSUSA additionally publishes books and DVDs that introduce parents to the atrium and the materials the children use, while explaining how the sacred space, materials and themes presented serve the inner life of the child.
The newsletters that began in 1984 came to be known as the annual journal, a copy of which is mailed to each member. The journal is a forum for catechists to share their experiences in the atrium through articles, children’s prayers, and children’s free art that explores and connects scriptural and liturgical themes.
CGSUSA also publishes resources privately that directly help catechists and formation leaders in their work. The Materials Manuals for the Level I, Level II, and Level III atrium, with the most up-to-date detailed instructions for making materials, are accessible online to members who have completed formation for each level.
